Is it safe to compress files online?

It depends entirely on where the work happens. On a traditional online compressor, you upload a file to a company's server, the server processes it, and you download the result. You are trusting that company's retention policy, security and staff with a copy of your document — often a contract, an ID scan, a medical form or an unreleased creative work.

Questions to ask any online tool

  • Is my file uploaded at all?
  • If so, how long is it kept, and is deletion automatic?
  • Is the connection encrypted, and who operates the service?
  • Does the privacy policy match the marketing claim?

How FileCompressor.site works instead

Our tools are client-side: the compression code runs in your browser tab, on your device, using your files in memory. No file data is transmitted to us — there is no upload endpoint to send it to. You can verify this in a practical way: load a tool, turn on airplane mode, and compress a file offline. It still works, because the work was never happening elsewhere.

What we do collect

Like most websites we may use cookies, with your consent, for preferences and advertising, and standard server logs record page requests (not your files). That distinction — page logs versus file contents — is explained in our Privacy Policy.

Sensible precautions anywhere

Keep originals, avoid compressing highly sensitive documents on shared computers, and prefer tools whose privacy model you can test — like the airplane-mode test above. Start with the homepage tools.
