Frequently Asked Questions

Is FileCompressor.site really free?

Yes. All five tools are free to use with no account. The site is supported by advertising, which loads only after you accept cookies.

Are my files uploaded to your server?

No. Compression runs 100% client-side in your browser. Files are read into your device's memory, processed locally, and offered back to you as a download. We have no upload endpoint for tool files.

What file size limits are there?

There is no server limit because there is no server processing. Practical limits are your device's memory, browser and patience — very large videos can be slow, especially on older phones.

Will I lose quality?

Lossy tools (JPEG/WebP images, MP3 audio, compressed video, image-rendered PDFs) trade some quality for size, controlled by the settings you choose. ZIP creation is lossless. Always keep your original.

Why did my PDF text stop being selectable?

Our PDF compressor renders each page as an image to achieve large savings. Keep the original PDF when you need searchable, copyable text. This is disclosed on the tool page before you compress.

Can I use the output commercially?

The files you compress are yours; we claim no rights in them. You are responsible for having the right to use and share the content you process.

Which image format should I choose?

JPEG for photo compatibility, WebP for the smallest web files, PNG for transparency and pixel-perfect graphics. See our image formats guide.

Do you store cookies?

Only as described in our Cookie Policy. Advertising cookies from Google and other third parties load only after consent, which you can decline.

What browsers are supported?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Video compression uses WebAssembly and needs the most memory.

How do I contact you?
